fall by the lake at smith college.

Monday, October 25, 2010

the first leaves of fall seemed a little lackluster this year - they were drying out as they turned colors, and falling off the trees right away. but i am pleased to note that the second wave of colors is here, and they are quite lovely.

i don't know if these are pleats or what, but i'm really taken by the seam detail on these dresses by christopher kane.

we had a blast at mikes maze, our local annual fall corn maze. (i sort of can't believe i live somewhere that has an annual corn maze.) you can't tell from the ground, but the elaborate maze is an image of a campbell's soup can a' la andy warhol. we were given a team flag when we entered the maze, and in keeping with the art theme, we were challenged with several pretty difficult art history trivia questions located throughout the maze. there were also 16 CMYK print stations that, when completed, gave us four reproductions of major works of american art. and there was lovely camera obscura to play with. after completing all of this (and getting some trivia questions right) we took home a small pumpkin!

we had a great trip to the east deck in montauk last weekend. seventy degree days, clear skies, and lots of waves for surfing. we took three ferries to get there from connecticut. and the light on the beach was fantastic!

this look from kenzo reminds me of a relaxed version of the stylized ornamentation of the geisha i saw while visiting kyoto. oy, i really want to go back to japan!
