it has taken me a while to post these last pictures from our cross country trip! we made an unexpected stop in south dakota at a nuclear missile silo and launch facility that was built in the sixties. it is no longer in use, of course, but is open as a national monument. our tour was led by a former member of the air force who had worked at the launch facility in its earliest days. we saw the bunker where the air force was always ready to press the button and start a nuclear war with the ussr. mind boggling!
