i have been pretty busy the last few days, we've had houseguests, and i started a new part time job this week. i'd forgotten what it was like to be a working girl! here are some pictures of what it looks like from my seat at the computer in the morning on a sunny day. i've made half curtains to keep the sun out of my eyes, and there is a beautiful shadow from the window on the orange wall behind me.

our bathroom mirror stays steamy for a long time. somehow it reminds me of a giacometti portrait.

slow growing

it has taken all summer, but our tomatoes are finally ripening. we planted them in a homemade greenhouse in march. they started to turn red last week. (doesn't get very warm out here on the coast!) now it looks like we will get a lot of tomatoes all at once - time to make sauce!

meal time

here sean is feeding the dogs their evening meal. we are constantly entertained by our cat poe, who makes regular attempts to eat the dog food. sometimes he is successful, but usually he gets deterred by the golden dog alexi, who is very protective of her food. this was the first time he was bold enough to wait around at the feeding hour, and surprisingly he wasn't chased away..

surf spray

i used to buy bumble & bumble's surf spray for my hair. at $17 a bottle, it approximated the carefree, tousled texture that comes after a day spent at the beach, hair thick with salt and sand. and it seems the aim of many hair products is to make clean hair look dirty anyways. these days i surf and don't wash my hair very much, giving a similar and much less expensive result!

the colors of a recent workday - pink water in the sink and blue fabric for a new project.
